All over the world people just like us are developing exciting light electric vehicles to move people and goods efficiently and cheaply. These are vehicles that can be built, maintained and fueled with a tiny fraction of the resources needed to do the same with cars and trucks. These are vehicles that could transform our cities and suburbs into cleaner and quieter places whilst slashing day to day travel expenses. But there is a problem.
THESE VEHICLES ARE BEING CRIPPLED!
This section of the High Voltage website is to advocate for changes to vehicle laws and use that would truly unleash the potential of light electric vehicles. We will set out a case for how light electric vehicles could have huge benefits for our health, economies, and resilience as our climate becomes more hostile to us. We will demonstrate how these vehicles can use vastly less resources and cause much less impact. We will also show how cheaply infrastructure can be adapted. Some of the topics that will be covered here are.
A new classification system for vehicles
Inspection and safety courses for users based on vehicle class
Ways to adapt transport networks to eliminate conflict and ensure safety
Theft of vehicle prevention systems and infrastructure
Taxation and usage fees for users of ALL vehicle types
Education and assistance to enable people to use these vehicles
Flexibility to adapt rules and regulations to best serve individual communities
This is not about having an attack at cars. Far from it. I own one. I just think that it is time to rethink our use of them if we are serious about addressing the amount of resources we are consuming. The car as a concept is so enshrined into both law and our own psyche that it has causes a huge hinderance to light electric vehicle development and use. It is forcing us into this insane position where we seem to want to replace all of our cars and trucks with electric versions of the same heavy chunks of metal. Are our imaginations really that limited? Even a supposedly genius mind like Elon Musk is supposed to be seem trapped by this lack of imagination.
My great hope for Tesla…. etc
There is not reason why light vehicles can do every single delivery of person or package in a city or suburb scenario. Why can’t we save vehicles like cars for intercity
All this endless consumption is not actually making you happy! -
